Port Authority approves route and fare changes

Port Authority's Board voted today to approve route and fare changes under the Transit Development Plan (TDP), an intiative that aims to provide improved levels of service to the vast majority of riders.

Details on the route changes are available on our Web site, including a PowerPoint overview of the project, a detailed look at route-by-route changes and information about tweaks we made to the plan in response to public comments and union input.

The $2 base fare in Zone 1 will not change, and we have scaled back our initial proposal for Zone 2 to $2.75 -- previous TDP documents had set the fare at $3. This change was made in response to numerous comments from Zone 2 riders during the recent public comment period. Further details on fare changes are also available online.

The fare change takes effect on January 1, 2010.

Route hanges will be implemented in phases, targeting one area at a time, with the first round of changes set to take effect in the spring of 2010. We'll be working to make riders and the public aware of changes well in advance of their implementation.

  1. no one here has answered my previous question? how the heck do you think you are going to get everyone in and out of downtown on the 33x when the routes every 3 to 5 minutes are completely full and routinely pass up stops...and then make them 10 minutes apart?!?!? will you adjust if you end up filling up completely on the first stop which is going to be what happens...stupid stupid plan..

  3. Let's take a vote - how large do you think the Port Authority's deficit will be next year and how much do you think they will raise the zone 2 passes? I suppose we can now expect to have $15 per month increases if not more, every year while we have the same, if not worse, service. Lately they only raised fares on the years their contracts were up. Now I assume they will raise them on a yearly basis because they know they can, and they know they will be permitted to get away with it. I'm waiting for my monthly transit pass to cost as much as my monthly mortgage payment, so I can line the Port Authority employees and CEO's pockets and basically support them and their families.

  4. its funny how the so-called "of the people" unions squeeze the rest of us dry to line their own pockets...who ever heard of $70,000 for driving a bus?! those drivers and the head of the union make much much more than anybody riding it and yet our rates keep getting jacked up in order to keep giving them better healthcare and better pay...get rid of the union and we would all be better off...

  8. I want to know what's going to happen to weekend service to propect park. Are you going to add additional service for the weekends to the 51 Carrick. Also why don't you extend service in the evenings till 2am for those of us that want to stay out with our friends and either don't drive, don't wanna drink and drive, or don't have money for a cab??? I guess you guys are promoting DUI's by not providing this service. Maybe I'll send this inquiry to the local media and let them take up the question. Would that open ur lips?

  9. I would really like it if there was some place to ask questions on the Portauthority.org website about these things. Like, for instance, I want to know if the 61C and 61D (the new R3 and R4) will go downtown. It would make sense that it would, but looking at the route maps compared to the 61A and 61B (R1 and R2) the map is only showing them going the inbound direction. It doesn't show the buses going in the outbound direction. I want to know this stuff...

  10. I would like to know why they are changing everything? The system is so simple now. I know that (with a few exceptions) the 20's and 30's go west, 40's and 50's to the south, 60
s and 70s to the east, etc. And for the T. I know that the 47's go on one side, and the 42's go on the other.

Port Authority is recognized as having a very unique naming system by some magazine, BusWorld or something. So why does it have to change?
