Overnight Transit Tunnel Closure on Oct. 23

Port Authority’s light rail system and several bus routes will detour Wednesday night due to continuing ventilation system work in the Mt. Washington Transit Tunnel.

The tunnel will close to transit vehicles from 8:30 p.m. until end of service. The tunnel is slated to be reopened in time for Thursday’s morning commute.

During the closure, all light rail service will be routed over the former Allentown Line in both directions. Due to the detour, Red Line and Blue Line cars will be unable to serve Station Square, so a rail shuttle will operate between Station Square and First Avenue Station to help riders connect to and from Station Square.

Buses that normally use the tunnel will also be detoured, using Warrington and Arlington avenues inbound and the Wabash Tunnel outbound, however, most regular stops will be served.

Riders using detoured bus and light rail service should allow for extra travel time.
