Police Investigating ConnectCard Fraud

Port Authority Police are currently investigating the fraudulent reproduction of ConnectCards and have several arrests pending. Riders should be assured that no security breach or identify theft has occurred, and customer information has not been compromised. “This is simply a case of an individual producing fraudulent smart cards and selling them outside of legitimate ConnectCard retail channels,” said Port Authority Police Det. Kevin Atkins. The technology used in ConnectCards has aided in detecting and deactivating fraudulent cards. The introduction of this technology has made it easier for Port Authority to stop fraud, especially when compared to the former paper pass system. This investigation is still ongoing.
